Privacy
Your files stay on your computer.
Flowedit's tools run in your own browser. Here is the short version, followed by the full privacy policy.
Last updated: October 2026
1. What this policy covers
This privacy policy covers the website flowedit.io and all the tools on it. It explains what personal data is processed when you visit the website and use the tools, why it is processed, on what legal basis, and what rights you have. Who is responsible and how to contact us is at the end.
2. Your files
Flowedit's tools run entirely in your web browser. When you choose a file in a tool, your browser opens it and does all the processing on your own computer. Your files are never uploaded to us or to anyone else, and we never have access to them. This applies to the file you choose, to the result, and to any information inside the file, such as the content of a recording.
When you close or reload the page, the file is no longer kept by the tool. The result you download is saved wherever your browser normally saves downloads.
3. Visiting the website and hosting
When you open the website, your browser needs to connect to the server that delivers it. In doing so, it automatically sends technical information that is needed to deliver the pages, such as your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, and the type and version of your browser and operating system.
The website is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA, which delivers the pages and protects the website against misuse and attacks. Cloudflare processes this technical information on our behalf as a data processor, under a data processing agreement that is part of Cloudflare's terms. We do not keep our own logs of your visits, and we do not use this information to identify you.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in delivering the website securely and reliably (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Everything else the website needs, such as the typeface and the MP3 library (which is only downloaded if you choose MP3), is delivered from Flowedit itself. Apart from Cloudflare's visitor statistics, described below, no content from other services is loaded on the website.
4. Data saved in your browser
To remember your choices, a few small things are saved in your browser's local storage, such as your settings, the presets you save in a tool, and ideas you write in "Missing a tool?". This information stays on your device. It is never sent to us, and we cannot read it.
Saving this information is strictly necessary to provide the functions you ask for, so no consent is needed for it. It stays until you delete it. You can delete it at any time with the button below, or by clearing the site data in your browser settings.
5. Cookies, visitor statistics and advertising
Flowedit does not use cookies. We do not use advertising networks, social media plugins, or any other technology that follows you across websites.
To see how many people visit Flowedit and which pages they use, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, provided by our host Cloudflare. It is made to respect privacy: it does not use cookies, does not save anything on your device, does not follow you across websites, and is not used to identify you. A small script counts each page view from information your browser sends anyway, such as the page, the page you came from, your browser type and your country. We only see the totals.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in understanding how the website is used, so we can improve it (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
6. Transfers outside the EU
Cloudflare is based in the United States, so technical information about your visit may be processed outside the EU and EEA. Cloudflare is certified under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework, for which the European Commission has decided that it ensures an adequate level of protection. In addition, Cloudflare's data processing agreement includes the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
7. How long data is kept
We do not store personal data about you ourselves. Technical information about visits is only kept by Cloudflare for as long as needed to deliver the website and keep it secure, and is then deleted. Data saved in your browser stays there until you delete it.
8. Security
The website is only available over an encrypted connection (https), so what your browser sends and receives cannot be read by others along the way. Because your files are processed on your own device and never uploaded, they are never exposed to us or to our host.
9. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- Access: get confirmation of whether we process personal data about you, and a copy of it.
- Rectification: have incorrect data about you corrected.
- Erasure: have data about you deleted.
- Restriction: have the processing of your data limited.
- Objection: object to processing that is based on our legitimate interests.
- Data portability: receive data you have given us in a common, machine-readable format.
Because your files are never uploaded and we do not keep our own records of your visits, we will usually not hold any personal data about you. You are still welcome to contact us with any request. We answer all requests within one month, as the GDPR requires, and may ask you to confirm who you are before we act on a request.
You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority, for example in the country where you live.
10. Automated decisions
We do not make decisions about you based solely on automated processing, and we do not create profiles of you.
11. Children
Flowedit is not made for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change what data is processed, for example when we add a paid plan, a login or usage statistics, we will update this policy before the change takes effect. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
13. Open-source licenses
MP3 export uses lamejs, a JavaScript version of the LAME MP3 encoder, licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License version 3 (LGPL-3.0). It is used unchanged, as a separate file.
- LGPL-3.0 license text and the GPL-3.0 license text it builds on
- Source code of lamejs
The typeface is Schibsted Grotesk by the Schibsted-Grotesk Project Authors, licensed under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.
14. Who is responsible and contact
The controller responsible for the processing of personal data on this website, as defined by the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), is Flowedit. For questions about this policy or your data, or to use any of your rights, write to [email protected].
